
Rich was born January 1, 1944 in Hartford Conn. He moved from Richmond ME to Port Charlotte, FL in 2005.
Rich was a retired Command Master Chief, of the Submarine Service, United States Navy.
He was a member of the American Society of Engineers, Society of Logistics Engineers, and a member of American Legion, 400th division.
After retirement, he worked as an engineer for the ship building industry.
Rich had many talents. A published author, accomplished artist of oils and water colors, accomplished designer of 3D paper/wood art.
An avid golfer who belonged to the Myaka Pines Golf Club, designing his own clubs and played with the “shanksters” often for charities, but had a special place in his heart for the “Salvation Army.”
Husband of the deceased Carol Boyden Unger, Richard is survived by his wife Diane Unger, two sons Tim and Tom Boyden of Topsham, daughter Pamela Boyden Durgan of Brunswick, and two grandchildren of Durham.
With full “Military Honor”’ by the United States Navy Honor Guards; on July 1, 2016, Richard J. Unger’s ashes were laid to rest in Sarasota National Veterans Cemetery, Sarasota FL.
On Saturday July 30th, 1:00pm at The SeaDog, Topsham – we will gather for drinks and good cheer in his honor. All are welcome and please bring your great stories of him with you.
