OLD ORCHARD BEACH — Marcel C. Angers, 87, of Old Orchard Beach, died peacefully and with dignity at his home Monday, July 18, 2016.

Mark was a devoted husband and father. He was born in Bristol, Connecticut, on March 13, 1929. He attended Bristol High School, and graduated in 1947.

He attended the University of Connecticut and graduated in 1953, receiving his Bachelor of Arts in education, and earned his Master of education degree from the University of Hartford in 1959.

He served as a paratrooper in the U.S. Army Air Corps, and was stationed in Korea after the signing of the armistice.

He started his career in education as a teacher in Bristol, and later moved to Maine in 1968, where he worked in the Portland school system as an administrator. His last job was at Biddeford High School, where he developed and supervised the in-school suspension program. Mark touched the lives of so many students who truly admired and respected him.

He also worked for many years at the Old Orchard Beach Chamber of Commerce, and spent many summers working on the beach as a lifeguard. He loved his work so much, he waited until he was 80 before he retired.

Marcel was preceded in death by his parents, Lucian and Malvina Angers.

He is survived by: his wife, Freda Angers; his son, Stewart and his wife Chantal; his sister, Jeannine Kallberg; his brother, Gilles Angers; his sister-in-law, Faye Morse; his brother-in-law, John Chapin; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

The family wishes to thank the doctors of Intermed, visiting nurses and Hospice of Southern Maine.

Visiting hours will be 5-9 p.m. Friday, July 22, at Old Orchard Beach Funeral Home. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 23, at St. Margaret’s Church.
