WESTBROOK — The Saco 8-10 year old baseball All-Stars would drop a tough 8-6 decision on Saturday, but the local squad would bounce back with a 9-1 win over Machias on Sunday to stay alive in the state tournament.

Saco will take on Lewiston in another losers’ bracket game at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.

Sunday

The Saco club would get strong pitching from Jeremiah Chessie, Henry Lausier and Josh Penney as the local All- Stars rolled to the win.

Chessie would toss three scoreless innings on just 35 pitches and Lausier and Penney would close out the game.

Saco’s offense would also come through in the elimination game.

“The kids were able to score nine runs with good hitting and excellent base-running,” said Saco coach Ryan Chessie.

The local squad also put on a show in the field, including an impressive relay from centerfielder Wyatt Benoit to Penney to Lausier to make an out at home and a diving catch by Kyle Lesieur in right field.

Saturday

The Saco club would score two runs in the top of the first, but Old Town answered with three runs in the bottom half to take a 3-2 lead.

Old Town would add another run in the second to push the lead to 4-2, but Saco responded with four runs in the third to take a 6-4 lead.

That would be all for Saco’s offense as Old Town held the local All-Stars scoreless the rest of the way. Old Town would tie the game with two runs in the bottom of the third and the District 3 champs would then take the lead for good with two runs in the fifth.

Saco was led by Justin Labelle with three hits and Penney with two hits. Matt Kimball had Saco’s other hit in the loss.

Josh Ney and Penney handled the pitching duties for Saco.
