MAINE STREET IN BRUNSWICK, looking north from the First Parish Church steeple, circa 1860. The largely treeless Mall — once a beaver swamp — is cordoned off by a fence with Park Row to the right. Well-known local historian Dick Snow will lead a tour Sunday, July 31, from one end of Maine Street to the other, pointing out easy-to-miss evidence of Brunswick’s past and describing how the downtown has changed over the decades. The tour, timed to coincide with the “Maine Street to Main Street: Downtown in Brunswick and Topsham” exhibit on view at PHS, meets at 1 p.m. at the Chamberlain Museum at 226 Maine St. in Brunswick where admission will be collected. The cost is $5 for non-members and free to PHS members. The tour is limited to 20 people. Call Pejepscot Historical Society at (207) 729-6606 or email info@pejepscothistorical.org before noon on Friday, July 29 to register.
