A 32-year-old local man was arrested by Biddeford police Thursday night following a stabbing on South Street.

According to a report posted on the Biddeford police website, officers found a man with a “significant” cut on his hand. The man, who wasn’t identified, was uncooperative and had to be taken into protective custody to allow paramedics to treat him. The man was subsequently taken to Southern Maine Health Care for treatment.

The report said that officers on the scene of the stabbing arrested Stephen Cote, who was charged with aggravated assault and violating conditions of release. Bail was set at $10,000 cash or $50,000 surety, and as of Saturday he was still being held at York County Jail.

While police were investigating the incident, they said, a woman on the scene was uncooperative and was charged with obstructing government administration. Police said she was held at county jail until she was sober.
