SACO — A man whom police say threatened to kill himself with a gun with a child inside the home surrendered peacefully to police after 1 1/2 hours Saturday afternoon.

No one was injured, and the child was not threatened,  said Saco Deputy Police Chief Corey Huntress. The man was taken to hospital.

“It ended in a good way,” said Huntress.

The deputy police chief said charges are pending as the investigation continues..

There was a significant police presence outside the duplex. Police officers from Saco, Biddeford and Old Orchard Beach responded to 80 Spring St,  shortly after the man called 911 at 1:05 p.m.

Huntress said dispatchers were able to successfully talk the man into going outside and he emerged, unarmed, at 2:26 p.m.

The young child was found unharmed and turned over to family members.

Police are not releasing the gender and age of  the child. Huntress said police believe the man and the child are family members.

The scene, near the rear exit of Saco Valley Shopping Center,  was cordoned off  for safety reasons for a period of time.
