SANFORD — Voters who wish to obtain an absentee ballot for the Aug. 23 school budget vote may do so through Thursday, when the city clerks office will extend its hours to 7 p.m.
That means anyone who wants to vote absentee following the 7 p.m. deadline for a ballot request must meet special circumstances, according to City Clerk Sue Cote.
Those special circumstances include:
• An unexpected absence from the municipality during the entire time the polls are open on election day.
• A physical disability.
• An incapacity or illness that has resulted in the voter being unable to leave home or a treatment facility.
Absentee ballots must be returned to the City Clerk’s Office by 8 p.m. Aug. 23 to be counted.
The City Clerk’s Office is on the ground floor of City Hall at 919 Main St.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
