From the Journal Tribune: “An old footbridge in the mill complex a symbol of the city’s history has come to mean something different to the Maine Energy Recovery Company, which recently discovered that it is the owner of a decaying structure leading from a parking lot to Saco Island. ‘It represents a liability to us,’ said Ken Robbins, general manager of Maine Energy.”

From the Biddeford-Saco Journal: “Across the farm belt, the great storage bins that were bursting with surplus food three years ago are now running low. A group of bins outside Davenport, Iowa, for example, no longer contain enough wheat to bake a loaf of bread. In upstate New York, a warehouse that was jammed full of surplus dairy products only two years ago is now empty. ‘As food stocks decline and world population expands,’ Rep. Joe Resnick, D-N.Y. told this column, ‘we are running out of food.’”
