BRUNSWICK — Since 2014, DEI has been conducting extensive field research in Freeport’s intertidal habitat to identify remediation techniques to restore softshell clam populations. Brian Beal, professor of Marine Ecology at the University of Maine at Machias and director of research at DEI, will discuss the efforts, the scientific basis behind the experiments, and key results.

Efforts to examine the relative impact of coastal acidification vs. predation on clams will also be discussed. This free event will be held at the Curtis Memorial Library at 6:30 p.m. this evening.
