ARROWSIC — Emily’s List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Eloise Vitelli of Arrowsic for Maine Senate District 23 that represents Sagadahoc County as well as the town of Dresden.
Vitelli is running against Republican Guy Lebida of Bowdoin, who defeated incumbent Linda Baker in the June primary.
“Eloise Vitelli has been an advocate for women’s economic, political, and human rights over many decades, working at both the grassroots and policy level to improve women’s lives,” said Emily’s List Vice President of Campaigns Lucinda Guinn. “Emily’s List is proud to endorse Eloise because we know she will be a strong voice for Maine’s women and families in the state Senate.”
For the past 36 years, Vitelli has been a member of what began as the Displaced Homemakers Program, where in 1984 she created an entrepreneurship training program for women. She is currently the director of program and policy at what is now called New Ventures Maine. In 1995 she was a nongovernmental delegate to the United Nations Conference on Women in Beijing, the same year she was inducted into the Maine Women’s Hall of Fame. From 2010-13 she served as chairwoman of the Maine Permanent Commission on the Status of Women.
