The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office said excessive speed is to blame for a single-car crash Thursday evening that sent two people to the hospital.

At 5:21 p.m., Eric Finnerty, 26, of Milton, Massachusetts was driving a 2103 Nissan Versa at a high rate of speed in the area of 1327 Harpswell Neck Road when he found he was unable to negotiate a curve in the roadway.

The vehicle left the roadway, striking a tree and demolishing the vehicle. Finnerty was transported to Maine Medical Center in Portland with serious leg injuries. His passenger, April Roseboro, 20, of Brunswick, was taken to Midcoast Hospital with minor injuries.

It appears the two were arguing at the time of the crash.
