BRUNSWICK — The Bowdoin
College field hockey team will open its campaign as the second-ranked team in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III poll.
The 2015 national runners up, the Polar Bears are coming off a 21-1 campaign and claimed the New England Small College Athletic Conference championship.
Bowdoin earned 16 first-place votes and trails only defending national champion Middlebury, which will enter the season ranked first in Division III.
NESCAC foes Tufts (No. 13) and Amherst (No. 15) also appear in the debut poll.
Bowdoin will begin its campaign on Wednesday at home against the University of New England. The Polar Bears will then play its NESCAC opener on Sept. 10 at home against Amherst.
