This is what many consider the final weekend of summer and the forecast hinges on exactly what tropical storm Hermine does, but the storm will play a small role in our weather.

Even though it is Friday, there are still questions about how Hermine will move over the next 72 hours, and this will certainly affect how much sunshine, cloudiness, and perhaps a shower or two that we experience.

Not matter what the storm does, the sunniest weather will be the further north and west you are this weekend: these areas are furthest from the effects of Hermine.

Today features a nice day of weather to end the work week with low humidity and plenty of sunshine. If your weekend plans start this evening, look for temperatures falling through the 60s with clear skies. The best weather will be tomorrow and Sunday. Saturday will feature the most sunshine and the warmest temperatures.

If you are going hiking, biking or running…

Saturday is definitely dry with no chance of rain. There will lots of sunshine, and with low humidity it’s a nice day for a long trek or run.  Highs will be in the mid 70s.

Sunday is also dry and sunny.  There will be some high clouds over southern York and Cumberland Counties later in the afternoon.  Highs again in the mid 70s

Monday presently has the highest risk of a few showers. If you are in southern New England this weekend it will be dry Saturday, but cloudier Sunday and a chance of showers Monday.

Highs will be in the low to mid 70s.

If you’re going beaching and boating…

Coast of Maine and New Hampshire Seacoast,: Tides are high in the 1 o’clock hour this weekend. The tides are not particularly high and water temperatures are still warm. The way Hermine moves over the weekend will determine the extent of any coastal issues, but seas will be rough by the end of the weekend and you should be very cautious about going into the ocean as rip currents will be likely.

Rain from Hermine will stay south of Maine for most of the holiday weekend

Saturday’s forecast: Sports enthusiasts will enjoy a picture perfect Saturday and  Sunday.  Monday’s outings will be played under cloudy skies from Portland south with some sunshine the further north you are.  There could be a few showers, but just a chance.

If you are gardening…

The drought is still a factor. The best thing you can do as a gardener is to try to give the larger trees and shrubs some water.  Allowing a hose to slowly drip water around a plant is best. If you are fixing your lawn this weekend, give it a good drink of water before planting seed.

If you are running errands…

Plan on doing errands on Monday if it’s feasible for you. Saturday is picture perfect and Sunday will see an increase in a few high clouds, and Monday looks to be at least very gray with a  possible shower, but no washout.

If you are going to a concert, outdoor party, or wedding…

There won’t be any issues with other outdoor events this weekend until perhaps a few showers move in to coastal southern Maine Monday.  This is still just a chance. The rain shield may or may not penetrate very far north of the south coast. Keep checking my forecast for updates on the progress of Hermine all weekend.

I will be updating the forecast on Twitter @growingwisdom throughout the weekend.
