No one was injured Tuesday afternoon in New Gloucester when a car rear-ended a school bus from School Administrative District 15.

The accident happened around 4:20 p.m. on Lewiston Road – part of Route 100 – when the driver of the school bus, Lisa Levesque, 41, of Vassalboro, stopped to let a 9-year-old girl off the bus.

Capt. Scott Steward of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release that a driver, Charles Bunyea, 36, of Lewiston, saw the bus and came to a stop in traffic, but a second driver, Jennifer Reilly, 40, of Lewiston, did not notice that the bus was stopping and crashed into the rear of Bunyea’s vehicle.

The force of that impact caused Bunyea’s car to rotate and hit the bus by its rear axle. The bus sustained scratches but no serious damage.

SAD 15 Superintendent Craig King said the elementary school student was picked up by her mother and taken home.

SAD 15 serves Gray and New Gloucester. Tuesday was the first day of classes in the district, according to the school department’s website.
