BATH — More than 80 competitors from across Maine and New England are coming to Bath’s McMann Field on Saturday for the 2nd Annual Picklefest pickleball tournament, featuring intermediate and advanced matches with some of the region’s strongest players.
Proceeds from registrations will benefit the Bath Area YMCA and the Bath Parks and Recreation Department’s summer camp scholarship programs and will be donated in memory of Ronnie Shy, the USA Pickleball Association Ambassador from Bath, who died December 2015.
Pickleball is played with a paddle and wiffle ball on a badminton-sized court and a 34-inch net. It resembles a mix of ping pong and tennis, with scoring similar to volleyball, but pickleball has its own rules and strategies.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
