WISCASSET — Ethel Cecile Stover, 83, of Sand Hill Road, went to be with God on Saturday, September 10, 2016. The daughter of Paul J. McCarthy and Helen Pappas Hume, she was born in Hartford CT, moving to Maine in her teenage years.

Ethel worked for the late Dr. John Andrews as office manager for 30 years in Boothbay Harbor, and previously had been Postmaster of Wiscasset and of Edgecomb.

She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and will be missed greatly.

Ethel is survived by her husband Eugene C. Stover Jr, to whom she was married for 65 years; daughter Jeanne Stover of Wiscasset; son George Stover and wife Karen of Freeport; son Paul Stover and wife Nancy of Wiscasset; son Patrick Stover of Portland; grandchildren Jeremy Main, Arelitsa Barth, Jessica Lapping, Daniel Stover, and Amanda Brockway; along with eight great grand-children, Ayanna Main, Gavin Main, Jocelyn Main, Declan Barth, Asa Lapping, Eli Lapping, Owen Lapping, and Maggie Brockway and her beloved chocolate lab Digger. Ethel loved spending time with her family. She was an amazing cook and set a bountiful table, hosting the family to celebrate the holidays, birthdays, and special occasions. She often sent Dad to deliver her desserts throughout the community. Ethel was a long-time subscriber to Portland PSO, and also enjoyed crocheting, knitting, and regional travel.

Services will be held on Friday, September 23 at 2pm at the Veterans Cemetery Chapel, 163 Mt. Vernon Road, Augusta. In lieu of flowers please send donations to: Good Shepherd Food Bank, PO Box 1807, Auburn, ME 04211-1807.
