Brunswick frosh girls roll to 6-1 victory
BRUNSWICK — The Brunswick High School freshman girls soccer team rolled to a 6-1 win over Yarmouth on Monday.
Rae Bamberger scored a hat trick for the Dragons, while Lila Solberg, Emily Swan and Anna Nadeau picked up a goal each.
Solid and aggressive midfield play came from Abby Morthland and Bridget Smith, helping to keep Yarmouth at bay.
Mt. Ararat opens with FH victory
AUBURN — The Mt. Ararat Middle School “A” field hockey began its season with a 7-0 victory over Auburn on Monday.
It took just 15 minutes for the Eagles to find their groove and take control of the game offensively. Hannah Huston made a nice pass to Brynn Charron, who knocked the ball into the goal for the first tally.
The flood gates opened from the there as Mt. Ararat scored two more goals before the half. Huston tallied unassisted, then Charron scored again on a nice set up from Paige Witwicki.
The second half started off with the Eagles applying a flurry of pressure to the Auburn defense. Witwicki and Jaimey Weidner both scored off feeds from Huston. Tess Hachey then assisted on Huston’s second goal and Gracie Morrell fired a hard shot from the top of the circle to close out the Mt. Ararat scoring. Charron assisted on the final tally.
Lexi Brillant and Charlie Smith each played a half in goal. Smith made one save. Maddie Daulerio, Brook Vermette and Annie Wilkins were midfield standouts, and Ashlyn Beebe played well on defense.
Providing offensive punch for Mt. Ararat were Emilia McKenney, Grace Marchildon and Jazzy Huntsman.
The Eagles travel to Lewiston on Friday.
Team effort leads to soccer victory
TOPSHAM — The Mt. Ararat Middle School seventh grade girls soccer team defeated Auburn, 7-1, recently.
Eagle goals were scored by Makenna Girourd, Barrett Thiboutot, Lauren Johnson, Shelby Myrick and Amy Putnam. Olivia Cox and Emily Davison had strong contributions defensively.
Both Emily Bontatibus and Elsa Daulerio were solid in goal.
Devereaux shines for Rogers Williams golf
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Roger Williams University men’s golf team began the 2016-17 season with a second-place finish at the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts Invitational Thursday.
Leading the way for the Hawks was junior Derek Devereaux of Brunswick, who claimed the individual title after firing a solid round of 74. Devereaux played a steady round of even-par 35 on the front nine and a 2-over par 39 on the back for the title. He birdied the par three seventh hole for his lone birdie against three bogeys.
Rogers Williams is slated to host a tournament today.
