WELLS — The Wells football team powered its way to a big 49-6 win over Mt. Valley at home.
Evan Whitten led the Warriors with three touchdown runs of 34 yards, 40 yards and 12 yards. Chad Fitzpatrick, Tyler Bridge and Riley Dempsey would also add touchdown runs of their own to secure the big win.
The Wells defense continued to dominate opposing offenses, holding Mt. Valley to just six points while also forcing a safety.
The Warriors are now 3-0 on the season and go up against Yarmouth next Friday.
Scarborough 21, Sanford 12
After taking a 7-0 lead in the first half, the Red Storm would have a big second half to pick up a win over Sanford.
Scarborough’s Owen Garrard would score two rushing touchdowns to put the Red Storm up 14-0. Sanford would strike back in the third when Frankie Veino connected with Ethan Belanger for a 9-yard pass to push the score to 14-6.
Garrard would go on to score his third touchdown in the third quarter. The Spartans responded with a touchdown of their own when Veino connected on an 11-yard touchdown pass with Mike Lunney.
Scarborough would hold on in the final seconds to close out the win.
Bonny Eagle 52, Massabesic 6
The Scots jumped out to a big 39-0 lead in the first half and never looked back as they cruised to a win over Massabesic.
Field Hockey
Massabesic 5, Bonny Eagle 0
The Mustangs continued their undefeated season with a big win Over Bonny Eagle Friday afternoon.
Logan Champlin and Kaylee St. Laurent would each score early in the contest to put Massabesic up 2-0. Emma Rutledge would score in the final two minutes of the first half to give the Mustangs the 3-0 advantage.
Jackie Bearse would get involved in the second half by scoring a goal, followed by a goal from Rutledge to secure the win.
Biddeford 3, South Portland 1
The Tigers gutted out a tough win over South Portland Friday.
After falling behind 1-0, the Tigers would respond by scoring three consecutive goals from Hailey Allen, Rebekah Guar and Paige Laverriere to secure the win.
Goalie Taylor Wildes tallied 10 saves in goal.
Cross Country
Boys
The Biddeford boy’s cross country team placed third while Sanford placed fourth in their meet against Deering and Windham. Sam Mills led the Tigers, placing 10th with a time of 18:17.
Girls
The Biddeford girl’s team took home first place in their meet, while Sanford placed fourth.
Leah Dorais led Biddeford, placing third with a time of 21 minutes. Madison Perry finished fifth, while Riley McNeil came in sixth, followed by Abby Laverriere in seventh and Lani Melton in 10th.
