Lakes Region fans of Binga’s Wingas chicken wings and barbecue sauces won’t have to make a trip to Portland or Yarmouth anymore. Binga’s this fall is opening a third location – this one in South Windham.
Binga’s is moving into the former convenience store and pizza parlor, Ruggerio’s, at the intersection of Route 202 and River Road. The building is undergoing major renovations, including reconfiguring the layout to be pub-style, according to Binga’s co-owner Alec Altman.
The restaurant will have a bar with eight seats and tables to seat 16, Altman said. Liquor and draft beer will be available.
The exact opening date is still to be determined, but there will be a soft opening this autumn, said Altman, who started the restaurant chain in 2004. Altman owns a Binga’s in Yarmouth and co-owns the Portland location with Mike Harris. Harris, a Windham resident, also co-owns the new restaurant.
South Windham diners can expect to see Binga’s popular chicken wings and homemade sauces on the menu – those items make up roughly half the sales at the other two locations – with a few differences. Because the new location will likely receive a lot of traffic from daytime commuters, boaters headed to Sebago Lake and tourists visiting the Lakes Region, the menu will be catered more to grab-and-go needs such as cold sandwiches and salads, offerings not available at the other Binga’s sites.
Altman said he and his staff are “super excited” about opening in Windham. “I really like what I do,” Altman said. “I make hungry people happy, which is a lucky thing to be doing.”
While the location at the intersection of Route 202 and River Road is outside Windham’s hotspot for commercial development, North Windham, Town Planner Ben Smith said it’s one of the areas targeted for more development under the town’s 2003 comprehensive plan. The restaurant is a great development for the town considering its placement and the location’s long history of use as a restaurant and food establishment, he said.

Binga’s Wingas will be opening their third location in South Windham, at the former pizza stop Ruggerio’s.
