BATH — Gene S. Moll, 82, of Bath died peacefully Sunday, September 18, 2016 at Midcoast Hospital in Brunswick surrounded by her loved ones, including many of her children and grandchildren.

She was born in Elizabeth, NJ on June 15, 1934 to parents George and Jane Skewis. She grew up in Chatham, NJ were she graduated high school. She spent much of her time with friends and family but her education was always of utmost importance in her mind. Education remained a priority with Gene throughout her entire life.

Due to her diligent efforts in high school, she received substantial scholarships enabling her to attend college. She went to Wellesley College, an exclusive all women’s school. There she earned her bachelor degree in English with a minor in botany. While at school, Gene attended school functions and “mixers” that integrated young men and women. It was there that she met a young Harvard man, Edward K. Moll, who was double enrolled at MIT. A suitable program for marine engineering was not available at just one university so he attended both. After a short courtship, the two were married on June 9, 1956 and then raised six children.

In 1963 Gene and Edward Moll moved to Bath, ME. While Edward worked at Bath Iron Works, Gene earned her master’s degree in school administration while raising six children. She went on to work for thirty years as a teacher, reading consultant, curriculum coordinator, and school principal in several Maine school districts. She began her career in the Head Start program. She then worked with special needs students in West Bath and then was a principal in Southport and Portland. While working and caring for her children she remained community oriented. She was involved with the Bath Garden Club and attended Grace Episcopal Church regularly. She was also an avid reader and encouraged her students, family, and friends to partake. The same care was put into her love for making beautiful quilts, rugs, and samplers. She hosted a group on Thursdays for her friends to work on their exquisitely crafted projects. Gene had a great love for the people in her life. All who knew her benefited from her kindness and generosity. She will be greatly missed and her family plans to carry on her good will towards others.

She is survived by her brother, four daughters, two sons, and thirteen grandchildren.
