Edith Oestrich, 88, formerly of Brunswick, died Sunday, October 2, 2016, at the Highlands Living Facility in Topsham, where she had been a resident since March. Born in Germany on September 7, 1928, she was the daughter of Herman and Lea Kujawski Wallach.
She came to the United States after World War II, and in 1949 married Ralph Oestrich in New York City. Mr. Oestrich passed away on July 14, 2006. She was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker.
She loved having friends and family over to her house, and was famous for her dinner parties. Edith and her husband travelled all over the world during their marriage, but for her nothing compared to the coast of Maine.
Survivors include a son, Randy Ostrich of Brunswick and Watertown, MA, a brother, Ernie Wallach and wife Toby of Virginia. Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a daughter, Ellen, in 1973.
Graveside services will be held at a later date at the Beth Jacob Cemetery, Auburn.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the charity of your choice.
Arrangements under the care of the Albert & Burpee Funeral Home.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
