Why are you running for office?

I’m running for office, because I want to make a positive difference in the lives of Maine’s families. Partisan politics is preventing common-sense legislative action to address the needs of Maine’s seniors, workers, families, and businesses.

• Income Tax: Gov. LePage would like to lower Maine’s income tax rate and eventually eliminate it, by increasing the state’s sales tax and expanding it across a broader range of goods and services. Do you support this proposal?

    I support tax reform, however, shifting to relying on sales tax unfairly hurts middle to lower income families. Responsible tax reform is needed and top earners need to pay their fair share.

• Background Checks: Do you support background checks for privately sold firearms in Maine?
  • Yes

    I strongly support our law enforcement and they have overwhelmingly stated that background checks make their jobs safer! If you support police, you have to support background checks.

• Minimum Wage: In light of the ballot question facing voters this fall, do you support raising the state’s minimum wage from $7.50 to $12 an hour by 2020?
  • Yes

    Increasing the minimum wage has been proven to not only raise the living standard of working families, but it also helps local businesses and communities as those families in turn spend that money where they live.

• Marijuana: Do you support legalization of marijuana for recreational use?

    I wouldn’t sponsor legislation or actively work to legalize it, however, if the voters approve it I would support their decision.

• Addiction/Overdoses: Do you believe the state is doing enough in response to the rise in heroin/opiate addiction and overdoses? If not, what else should be done?
  • This is one of the greatest challenges facing Maine. We need to invest in treatment options to help those who are recovering and enact healthcare changes that prevent over-prescribing these types of drugs by doctors.
