A fire destroyed a three-story home in Newport Saturday.

No one was home when firefighters arrived at the scene on Hart Street around 7:30 p.m. to find the home engulfed in flames.

It took 35 firefighters from the Newport Fire Department and surrounding communities three hours to extinguish the fire.

Fire officials told WCSH-TV reports that three dogs left in a kennel on the property were killed.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s office.
