Garth Berenyi scored all three goals as the Bangor High School boys soccer team defeated Mt. Ararat, 3- 1, in a key Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference clash on Friday.

In a battle of 9-1 teams, the Rams used Berenyi’s heroics to earn the win, improving to 10-1. The Eagles saw their nine-game winning streak come to an end and fell to 9-2. Mt. Ararat visits Brunswick on Tuesday (3:30 p.m.).

Berenyi scored 5:40 into the game off an assist from Carson Atherly.

But, the Eagles tied the game when James Hutchinson scored off a setup from Jimmy Pelletier with 25:39 remaining in the first half.

The play went back and forth from there until Berenyi scored the go-ahead goal with two minutes remaining until halftime.

FREEPORT 2

The Falcons hosted their first game under the lights, but Cameron Smith ruined the festivities with a goal in overtime to lift York (7-4) to a Western Maine Conference win on Friday.

Josh Spaulding and Ryan Rosado, from Eric Pelletier, helped Freeport (6-5-1) erase a 1-0 halftime deficit with two second-half goals.

Freeport visits Cape Elizabeth on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Kellen True scored the winner as the visiting Rebels earned a Mountain Valley Conference win over Lisbon on Saturday.

The Greyhounds cut the deficit in half on a Ryley Austin goal with 30 minutes remaining.

Matt Rines scored two first-half goals to power the host Bobcats (9-1) to an East- West Conference win on Saturday.

Brendan Emmons and Zach Marseglia each picked up an assist on Rines’ goals, and Marseglia and Marson Sneddon scored a goal each in the second half for Richmond, which hosts Pine Tree Academy on Tuesday at 4 p.m.

Zach Small had two saves in the Richmond cage, while Isles Blackington had 15 stops for the Vikings.

Girls soccer

FREEPORT — Jordan Randall made 13 saves to lead Freeport to a 0-0 deadlock with Sacopee Valley in a WMC contest on Saturday.

The game was played under the lights.

Madison Day stopped seven shots for the Hawks (9- 0-2).

Freeport is 6-4-2 and hosts Cape Elizabeth on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.

Meranda Martin powered her way to four goals as the host Bobcats rolled to an EWC win on Saturday.

Caitlin Kendrick and Destiny Anair each chipped in two goals for Richmond (9-1), with Emily Snowdon, Cassidy Harriman and Camryn Hurley adding a goal each.

Richmond hosts Pine Tree Academy on Saturday at 4 p.m.

On Thursday, the host Wolverines scored a pair of second-half goals for an MVC win over the Seahawks.

Gabby Chapman’s corner kick led to Wiscasset’s first goal as Sarah Foley put home a shot for a 1-0 lead.

Ten minutes later, Cyra Fait scored off a scrum in front of the Boothbay (2-9) net. Grace Webber assisted.

GARDINER 0

MORSE 3

On Thursday in Bath, Amanda Gagne, Noa Sreden and Emily Martin scored one goal each for a KVAC win for the Shipbuilders, who improved to 9-2 and hosts Medomak Valley on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Morse finished with a 26-4 shot advantage. Gagne’s goal came two minutes in, and four minutes later Sreden converted a rebound for a 2-0 lead.

Field hockey

TOPSHAM — Porter Gauvin and Abby Malbon scored a goal each to lift Mt. Ararat to a 1-0 KVAC win over Lewiston on Saturday.

The Eagles improved to 4- 9 and meet Brunswick at Bowdoin College Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Haley Frizzle turned aside six shots for the Eagles.

At Cumberland on Saturday, Kerry Lefebvre scored two goals 2:09 apart to break a 1-1 tie as the Falcons held on for a WMC win over Greely (5-8).

Freeport, which finished its regular season with a 6-7- 1 record, also received a goal from Maya Bradbury.

Football

BATH — Raz Baltazar rushed for 144 yards, but Morse scored just one touchdown in a 25-8 Class B South loss to Falmouth on Saturday at McMann Field.

Connor Aube had two touchdowns for the 5-1 Yachtsmen.

Baltazar carried the ball 27 times, while quarterback Connor Upham was 9-of-22 in the air for 124 yards. He threw for a touchdown and was intercepted twice.

Baltazar led the Morse defense with two sacks and seven tackles, with Austin Baltazar recording seven tackles.

The 2-4 Shipbuilders host Westbrook this upcoming Friday at 7 p.m.

Girls volleyball

BRUNSWICK — Marshwood dropped the opening set against Brunswick on Friday, but reeled off the final three for a 3-1 victory over the Dragons at Harriet Beecher Stowe Elementary School.

Brunswick pulled away for a 25-21 win in the first set. The Hawks followed with scores of 27-25, 25-12, 25-20 to win the match and drop the Dragons to 0-12.

Tahlya Edgerton led Brunswick with nine service aces, with Mackenzie Burrows adding three kills, four digs and two blocks. Katharine Kunhardt had five assists, while Sophie Katz had three aces.
