The Durham Town Office hours are Monday, Tuesday and Friday, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.; closed Wednesday; and Thursday, 10:30 a.m.-6:30 p.m. The office will be closed Friday, Nov. 11, for Veterans Day. For more information, call 353-2561.

Meetings

The Board of Selectmen will meet Tuesday, Nov. 1 and 15, at 6:30 p.m., at the town office.

The Planning Board will hold a regular meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 2, at 7 p.m., at the town office.

The Comprehensive Plan Committee will meet Monday, Nov. 7, at 6:30 p.m., at the town office.

Bettie Kettell run-

walk Oct. 30

The Bettie Kettell 5K Memorial Walk, Run or Bike will be held Sunday, Oct. 30,

at 1 p.m., rain or shine, starting and ending at the First Congregational Church, United Church of Christ, at 773 Royalsborough Road,, Route 136. Half of the race proceeds will go to the town of Durham Fuel Fund and half to the church Building Fund. Pledge sheets are available at the church or through Jill Litchfield, 650-0063.

Bettie Kettel, a beloved member of the church, died unexpectedly at the age of 68 in2015. The church’s annual fall walk was renamed last year in her honor. Kettell organized a series of environmental films at the church to raise awareness of environmental issues. She organized a church craft fair in the spring, served as a church deacon and sang in the choir.

“Bettie was the kind of person you wanted on any committee. She was always doing and she had the best hugs. That’s what I miss most about Bettie,” Litchfield told the Tri-Town Weekly last year.

Gun raffle tickets on sale

Durham Fire & Rescue is launching its annual “30 Days – 30 Guns in November” gun raffle. The organization is again working with Johnson’s Sporting Goods. Tickets are $20 each and can be purchased from any member of the Durham Fire & Rescue Department. Those interested can stop by the station at 615 Hallowell Road or call 353-2473. Tickets can also be purchased at the Durham Get & Go at 697 Royalsborough Road. Sales are limited to 3,000 tickets, so the odds of winning are 1 in 100.

Snowmobilers

meet monthly

The Tri-Town Penguins Snowmobile Club meets on the last Tuesday of each month from September to April. Meetings are held at the Durham Fire Station, 615 Hallowell Road in Durham, beginning at 7 p.m. The next meeting is Tuesday, Nov. 29. New members are always welcome. Town Office notes

Absentee voting is happening now at the Durham Town Office, during regular business hours. Polls will be open on Tuesday, Nov. 8, from 8 a.m.-8 p.m., at the Durham Community School. Other options for obtaining an absentee ballot is to phone the office at 353-2561 and one will be mailed. For online request, see www.maine.gov.

The 2017 dog registration time runs now through Jan. 31. Come prepared with current rabies papers unless it is recorded already. Vaccines are now good for three years after the first year. The cost is $6 for altered dogs and $11 for unaltered dogs. A late fee of $25 per dog will go into effect Feb. 1, 2017.

Community Lunch

Tuesday, Nov. 1

The next Community Lunch schedule is Tuesday, Nov. 1, at the First Congregational Church of Durham, 773 Royalsborough Road. Doors open at 11:30 and the meal is served at noon. The suggested donation for lunch is $2-$4, and all proceeds fund future lunches.

The general schedule is the first and third Tuesday of the month. The church, located at the intersection of routes 9 and 136, is handicapped accessible. Those interested in helping or who have questions can call Julie Wagoner at 353-9715.

AMVETS dance,

fair planned

Durham AMVETS Post 13, 1049 Royalsborough Road, is holding a dance on Saturday, Oct. 29. The band Backlash will be playing from 8 p.m.-midnight. The cost is $10 per person.

The AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary is looking for crafters to participate in the annual craft fair on Nov. 19. Contact Erica Burke for registration at 841-4017.

Veterans who want to belong to an organization that supports other veterans, families and the community are welcome to join the Durham AMVETS Post 13. The group meets the first and third Monday of the month, unless it’s a holiday, at 7 p.m. For more information, call Chad Burke, 798-0956.

Women who are the wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister or granddaughter (18 or older) of a veteran are invited to join the Durham AMVET Post 13 Ladies Auxiliary. The group meets the third Monday of each month at 7 p.m., at the hall. For more information, call Melinda Doughty, 841-4095.

Weekly cribbage

The Durham Eureka Community Center, corner of Route 9 and Route 136, hosts cribbage every Tuesday from 9 a.m.-noon.

Rent Eureka Center

Food pantry

The Lisbon Area Christian Outreach (LACO) food pantry, which serves the towns of Durham, Bowdoin, and Lisbon Falls, is open Wednesday from 6-8 p.m., Thursday from 10 a.m.-noon and Saturday from 8-10 a.m. The LACO Food Pantry is located at the Marion T. Morse School on School Street, Lisbon Falls. The parking lot is behind the Lisbon United Methodist Church, off Berry Avenue. There is also a free clothing bank.
