Maine State Police say a woman was killed this morning when her car hit a tree in Alfred.   

The crash took place just before 7:30  a.m. on Whichers Mills Road, said Maine Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland.  The woman was the only occupant of the car. McCausland said her name will be released this afternoon. Trooper Ben Smith said there is no apparent cause for why the car left the road. -Tammy Wells/Journal Tribune
