Annual hunters breakfast

New Gloucester Fire and Rescue will sponsor a hunters breakfast, in conjunction with the first day of Maine resident firearms deer hunting season, from 5:30-10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 29. An all-you-can-eat breakfast, consisting of eggs, pancakes, home fries, biscuits and beans, sausage, orange juice, milk and coffee, will be served at the station located at 611 Lewiston Road. Also, takeout service is offered. The cost is $7 per person, free for those under 4. The breakfast is open to everyone, not just hunters.

Udderly Amazing Cows

Try your hand at milking a cow. Explore the dairy barns at Pineland’s Valley Farm and learn about Holstein cows and how the workers there care for them. The program takes place on Tuesday, Nov. 1, and will be repeated Thursday, Nov. 3, and Wednesday, Nov. 9. All run from 10-11:30 a.m.

This program is open to all ages for a cost of $5 per person. To allow time to travel to the site, purchase tickets 15 minutes in advance at The Market and Welcome Center at Pineland Farms, 15 Farm View Drive. Annual harvest supper

Lunn-Hunnewell Amvets Post 6 Auxiliary in New Gloucester is hosting its annual harvest supper on Saturday, Nov. 5, from 5-6 p.m. at the Amvets Hall, Route 100, New Gloucester. The menu includes ham, potatoes, carrots, squash, turnip, cabbage, onions, rolls, coffee, tea and punch, as well as homemade apple crisp for dessert. The cost is $10 for adults, $5 for children 6-12, free for under 6. Proceeds are to be used to sponsor the auxiliary’s veteran’s hospital projects.

Red-Eyed Fox in concert

Jake Hoffman from Tumbling Bones and Tyler Lienhardt from Tricky Britches have teamed up to form Red-Eyed Fox, a soulful and energetic interpretation of traditional music from North America and around the world. The duo performs at the New Gloucester Coffeehouse on Saturday, Nov. 5.

This old-time and folk band is scheduled to take the stage at 7:30 p.m. in the Vestry Community Room of the First Congregational Church, 19 Gloucester Hill Road. Admission at the door is $10. Call 653-4823 for more information.

Holiday meals available

The Caring Community of Gray-New Gloucester coordinates the distribution of holiday meals to individuals, families and senior citizens who find themselves in need at Thanksgiving and Christmas.

If you would like to request a Thanksgiving meal, pick up an application and return the completed form, no later than Thursday, Nov 10, in the designated CCGNG boxes at any of the following locations: all Gray-New Gloucester schools, as well as through the electronic school email; the Gray Public Library; and both town halls. Application forms are available at the guidance office in both the GNG middle and high schools and at www.msad15.org/community/caring-communities.

Want to help out? Sponsors and donors are needed. Sponsors “adopt” a family or individual and provide all the fixings for a holiday meal. Sponsors can also provide gifts to children 18 and under at Christmastime. The CCGNG matches sponsors with families and individuals. Service window closed Nov. 8

The New Gloucester Town Office service window will be closed all day on Tuesday, Nov. 8, to allow both deputy clerks to attend to business at the polls on Election Day.
