Recently I received, in my mailbox, a postcard sent by DOGS (Dog Owners of Greater Scarborough), a registered PAC, encouraging me to go to a Facebook page to learn more about Town Council candidate Katy Foley. When I did, I found inaccurate information and a focus on divisive issues.

On her Facebook page, Ms. Foley focuses on dogs, plovers and beaches. She criticized the cost of the piping plover coordinator as an expensive year-round position, claiming it cost $100,00 for the last three seasons. In fact, it was a seasonal position and the salary averaged less than $12,000 per year. It should also be noted that the program is largely volunteer and widely acclaimed as a success at protecting an endangered species. I am acutely aware of this because I am a volunteer beach monitor.

Ms. Foley has stated that getting the facts and telling the truth are important attributes of a town councilor. I agree, so I am very concerned that a candidate for Town Council would not do her homework. I am also concerned that she continues to focus on plovers, dogs and beaches.

It is time to move on and put council time and attention on other town issues. There are three other highly qualified candidates that you should consider before casting your vote.
