BOWDOINHAM — Rachel G. Mateyko, 86, of the River Rd., died on Sunday, October 30, 2016 at her home with here family by her side.

She was born on the Santa Rosa Ranch, Texas, which was owned by her grandfather. Rachel was born on May 24, 1930 the daughter of Santiago and Hortencia Gonsales.

Rachel’s passion was education and most recently enjoyed substitute teaching for SAD 75.

She was an ardent Cowboys fan, dedicated military spouse, volunteering at Post 132 American Legion for 16 years. Rachel received the Armed Forces Mother of the year award in 1973. She was a very supportive mother, always involved in her children’s activities.

Rachel was predeceased by her parents, husband Charles (Teyko) Mateyko, and 5 siblings. She is survived by daughters Rachelle Tome and husband Dennis of Bowdoinham, Delores Jane Mateyko of Oklahoma, Julianna Dullum and husband Michael of Florida, sons George Mateyko and wife Donna of Georgia, Carlos James Henry Mateyko of Bowdoinham, Joseph Michael Mateyko of Indiana, sister Ofira Grace (FIFi) Gonsales Merkle of N.C., 16 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and many, nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Thursday, November 10th at 11am at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Richmond. Per her request a private burial will follow at Maine Veterans Cemetery, Mt. Vernon Rd. Augusta, Me.
