Pownal voters gave next-door neighbor Sarah Hall a slight nod over incumbent Paul Chace in the House District 46 race Tuesday, but the 8-vote margin was not enough for Hall to overcome losses in her hometown of Durham.
Chace, the Republican incumbent, defeated Hall for the seat in District 46, which covers part of Pownal, Durham and North Yarmouth. In the section of Pownal that counted in the race, Hall had a 351-343 edge.
In other statewide races, Pownal residents backed winners Sara Gideon of Freeport for House District 48, and Everett “Brownie” Carlson for Senate District 24. In a rematch from two years ago, Gideon defeated Paul Benjamin Schulz in Pownal, 199-165. Carlson got the nod over Tristam Coffin by a 539-507 vote in Pownal.
In the race for Cumberland County Register of Probate, the town gave Republican James Hughes an edge over Democrat Nadeen Daniels, 542-487. Daniels, however, easily won that race.
Pownal backed Hillary Clinton over Donald Trump, 566-421, in the presidential election. Voters gave Libertarian Party candidate Gary Johnson 60 votes, and Green Party candidate Jill Stein got 16.
In the 1st District, incumbent Democrat Chellie Pingree, who won a fifth term, beat Republican challenger Mark Holbrook, 578-487, in Pownal.
