Long lines at polling places across the state, such as these at Scarborough High School, were expected Tuesday as Maine Secretary of State Matthew Dunlap said town and city clerks were prepared for a strong turnout on Election Day.

“Election Day is the ultimate in democracy, when we make the decisions about how (we) will be governed,” Dunlap said in a press release. “The world is run by the people who show up and vote, and we expect a strong turnout this year in particular, given the high-profile races and the wide scope of the statewide referendum questions.”

In closing, Dunlap encouraged all eligible voters in Maine to cast ballots Tuesday.

Sign, sign, everywhere a sign. The entrance drive to Scarborough High School was massed with candidate’s signs on Tuesday. 

Strong turnout was expected on Election Day. At Scarborough High School, there were long lines as people checked in to cast their ballots.
