FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — Darrelle Revis hasn’t had the type of season anyone is used to seeing from him, but that doesn’t mean Bill Belichick will look past the former All-Pro cornerback.

Having spent the bulk of his career in the AFC East, Revis has gone up against Belichick 13 times.

Although his play at age 31 has taken a step backward, Belichick won’t take him lightly this weekend when the Patriots take on the New York Jets.

“Well, just go back to our game (last season). Big interception against us down there. I would never underestimate that player,” Belichick said. “He’s got good skills, good competitor. I would never underestimate him.”

In the 2014 season, Revis helped the Patriots to their fourth Super Bowl championship with 14 deflections and two interceptions. Revis signed a five-year, $70.12 million contract with the Jets after the season.

Last year Revis had five interceptions and was named to his seventh Pro Bowl. This year, it’s been different.

Revis told the New York Daily News his play hasn’t been up to his normal standards “because I’m old.”

DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR Matt Patricia was asked if he felt disappointed he wasn’t able to get more out Jamie Collins and Jabaal Sheard, and if there was any self-inspection going on given the Patriots are still trying to figure things out this late in the year defensively.

After initially shooting the question down as being negative, and tossing out quite a few generalities, Patricia eventually cut to the chase.

“Certainly for me … we’re always trying to get everybody to play their best and do their best and that’s what drives us as coaches,” he said. “No matter who the player is or what the situation is – your best player, your bottom player, guys on the practice squad – we’re always going to have higher expectations than anybody else.”

ASKED ABOUT the availability of defensive tackle Alan Branch for Sunday’s game against the Jets, Belichick said it was a wait-and-see proposition. Branch reportedly was suspended four games by the league for violation of the drug policy, but is in the process of an appeal.
