LEWISTON — Robert R. Rich Jr., 84, of Auburn, Maine, a resident of Schooner Estates, passed away suddenly, Tuesday, November 22nd at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.
He was born August 21, 1932 in Newport, the son of Robert R. Rich, Sr. and Emily (Palmer) Rich. Robert was a graduate of Newport High School. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Monterey from January 23, 1952 through December 7, 1955, during the Korean War. On April 19, 1952, at St. Rose of Lima Church in Jay, while home after boot camp, he married his sweetheart, Armance Turmel of Jay. Following their wedding, they returned to Pensacola, Florida as husband and wife. After his military service, Robert went to work for RCA in Lewiston, transferred to Wisconsin, California, and North Carolina before becoming a maintenance supervisor for the company in Lewiston. Later when the building in Lewiston was purchased by Liberty Mutual Insurance Company, he was asked to remain as its building supervisor. He worked for them in Portsmouth, NH, Fresno, Los Angeles and San Francisco, California. He continued working for Liberty Mutual until his retirement. He was a lifetime member of the Lisbon American Legion Post #158 where he served as Commander, and served as Maine State Commander from 1975 to 1976.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Armance Rich of Auburn; his six children, Susan Gaworski and her husband Jim of New Gloucester, Robert Rich III of Houston, Texas, Rose Hill and her husband Robert of Norfolk, Virginia, Arnold Rich of Mechanicville, New York, Norma Wells and her husband Ken of Lisbon Falls, and Dolores Davies and her husband Michael of Verona, Wisconsin; 9 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his three siblings, Marilyn Cacchioli of Moriarty, New Mexico, Jean Partridge of Livermore Falls, and Harry Rich and his wife Darlene of Atlanta, Georgia.

A funeral service with full military honors will be held 11AM, Saturday, December 3rd at FINLEY FUNERAL HOME, 15 Church Street, Livermore Falls, Maine.
