OLD ORCHARD BEACH — On Wednesday morning, as it does every year, the town welcomed the holiday season with the installation of the town Christmas tree in the square. This year, the tree has a special meaning.

The tree, which town officials say is 45 feet tall, was donated to the town by Bob Moody, in memory of Barbara, his wife of 58 years, who died in November, 2015.

“ We shared a lot along the way and sought guidance from above. We raised our kids as best we could and I know we showed them how a love can grow still greater than the day you take your vows,” said Moody in a statement from the Assistant Town Manager. “It wasn’t all wedded bliss throughout those many years, but we gave each other a hug and a kiss and soothed each other’s fears.”

Perian Carpenter, mobility manager at ShuttleBus-Zoom, where Moody works as the summer trolley coordinator described Moody and his late wife as “big supporters” of the community, and very involved in the lives of their children and grandchildren.

“Truly at this blessed time of the year when family means so much – what a tribute to love and caring,” said Reid.
