Vermont’s longest serving state senator is not going to seek a recount after losing his bid for his 25th term in the Senate.
Republican Sen. William “Bill” Doyle announced last week he would not seek a recount after initially requesting one in the race in which he came in fourth in November’s election in a race for three Senate seats to represent Washington County.
In a statement, Republican Gov.- elect Phil Scott, currently the lieutenant governor, thanked Doyle for his 48 years of service to the people of Washington County and the state of Vermont.
Doyle was defeated by Democrat Francis Brooks, a former member of the state House and Statehouse sergeant-at-arms.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
