BATH
Bath’s streets will be festively lit and shops and restaurants will stay open late as the city celebrates Downtown Bath Open House Friday night.
The event, which takes place from 5-8 p.m., encourages holiday shoppers to visit the downtown area and will feature holiday window displays as part of the downtown’s Christmas window decorating contest.
Among the open house events will be a holiday reception at Green Lion Gallery on Centre Street, featuring the work of Bath oil painter Tanja Kunz. Kunz’s paintings blend realistic and abstract images, and the event is part of the gallery’s monthly showcase.
“The is the first time we’ve had Tanja’s work at our gallery,” said Penny Lane, co-owner of The Green Lion Gallery with David Morgan. “Her paintings have a sense of holiday color, and play on what’s found in the natural world. Her work is mostly abstracted flowers and other natural things.”
Kunz has been featured in shows throughout Maine and across the country.
“Bath is a great little city with a huge heart,” said Kunz. “I’m so happy to sharing my work here.”
Downtown Bath Open House is part of Main Street Bath’s “An Old Fashioned Christmas,” a series of events that kicked off Nov. 26 with a traditional Christmas tree lighting.
Other events include Trolley Christmas Caroling every Friday and Saturday until Dec. 23, where passengers are picked up at City Hall every 30 minutes to sing as they travel though town by trolley. No admission charge, first come first served.
Paul Revere Bell Ringing will take place Dec. 31 from noon to 1 p.m. at Bath City Hall to celebrate the new year. The ceremony will include singing and refreshments.
Ongoing events include the Stuff Santa’s Bag with Christmas Dinner food drive. Bags can be found in the lobbies of Bath City Hall, Bath Savings Institution, Brackett’s Market, First Federal Bank (Congress Avenue and Front Street locations) and Now You’re Cooking. Suggested items include canned and boxed meats, vegetables and pastas. Donated food will be distributed to the Bath Food Bank in time for the holidays.
Additionally, two Red Letter Boxes are posted in Downtown Bath where people can send a letter for Santa or a holiday card to a senior citizen. Cards will be distributed to Bath area seniors and letters to Santa will be sent off to the North Pole. For a reply letter from Santa, include your return address on the front of your envelope.
