PORTLAND (AP) — U.S. Sen. Angus King says a bill he has co-sponsored would make it easier for government to attract technology innovators to public service.
King, a Maine independent, says the bill would establish a law that makes a pathway to attract experienced entrepreneurs from the technology sector into government work.
The bill would make the Presidential Innovation Fellows program permanent. The White House created that program in 2012 to pair technology entrepreneurs with civil servants in federal agencies.
King says making the program permanent will create a long term pipeline of technologists and innovators into government service.
King is co-sponsoring the legislation with Democratic Sens. Mark Warner of Virginia and Cory Booker of New Jersey and Republican Sen. James Lankford of Oklahoma.
