AUGUSTA (AP) — Maine is covered in snow, but that doesn’t mean the drought is over.

The Maine Drought Task Force meets Friday in Augusta to discuss the drought and how the task force intends to proceed heading into the winter.

The U.S. Drought Monitor says more than two-thirds of the state remains either abnormally dry or in a drought. But conditions have eased with rain and snow.

The U.S. Geological Survey says surface water gauges in Maine are in the normal range, yet officials say groundwater levels will take longer to recover.
