Watching the Mustangs, you wouldn’t know the team was fresh, as Zion Mercado was called, “unstoppable,” from the sidelines and Isaac Desvergnes brings his athletic skills into the winter.
“We’re young. No returning starting varsity players. All of them have never started a varsity game. This is their first,” said Massabesic coach Chris Binette.
Nonetheless, there is visible talent on the Massabesic court.

Biddeford’s Austin Dutremble said, “It feels great, it was a great team effort. Everyone contributed. The bench contributed. All our guys were scoring. We were just playing great team basketball.”
Biddeford has been preparing with dedication for Friday night’s game. The boys basketball team has practiced an estimated 10 hours this week alone. Biddeford’s Kyle Norton said, “For the past few weeks we know we can do it and we have great depth. It’s kind of easy to put a team together when you know you have chemistry. It’s kind of just a basketball family.”
Looking to build team skills for the future, Dutremble said, “We should keep working on our passes because we got a lot of turnovers and if we were up on them we could’ve prevented that.”
