Gorham, Sebago school talks off

Darryl Wright, chairman of the Gorham School Committee, told the Gorham Town Council last week that his committee unanimously voted not to pursue a possible agreement to educate Sebago students.

“So those discussions are done at this time,” Wright said.

‘Operation Chillout’ under way

Toby Scali, a parishioner at St. Anne in Gorham, has started a program to help warm the homeless in Gorham, Westbrook and Windham.

“Operation Chillout” began in New Jersey and makes hats, scarves and mittens that are distributed to the homeless. After moving to Maine, Scali suggested to the St. Anne parish that the program could be established in Gorham.

“We started in the spring and now have about a dozen members,” Scali said in an announcement from the Roman Catholic Diocese of Portland.

The group has members from St. Anthony of Padua in Westbrook and Our Lady of Perpetuial Help in Windham in addition to St. Anne.

Those interested in joining the group, donating material or providing financial assistance should call St. Anne at 839-4857.

‘Christmas in Barn’ reminder

Faith Lutheran Church will present “Christmas in the Barn” at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 18, at the Hartwell Farm, 443 Sebago Lake Road, Gorham.

Those attending will hear about the Christmas story, visit live animals and join a hymn sing. Attendees shoul dress warmly. Hot chocolate will be available.

U.S. taxpayer debt

The Bureau of the Fiscal Service reported on Dec. 8 that the U.S. public debt was $19,877,418,396,481.66

Rep. Maureen Terry, D-Gorham, was sworn into the 128^th Maine House of Representatives on Dec. 7. Terry represents House District 26, which serves part of Gorham.
