With unpredictable Maine weather, it’s a good thing that Santa has a sleigh and doesn’t depend on good roads for travel. He also has very warm robes and dresses in layers so the frigid weather followed by warm days doesn’t bother him. Of course his elves don’t always get to ride in to work with him, so they needed to be extra careful when traveling. The early snow had no effect on packing orders and the nicer weather the next day made for safe travel to the workshop. This is a recovered article, originally intended for the first week in December. It had fallen, unnoticed, into a deep crevasse. One of Santa’s elves recently discovered that papers were missing, and with the aid of a surefooted reindeer, was able to get to the bottom and rescue the papers that blew into the hole.

As of the fifth of December many checks and a large bag holding 50 pairs of mittens were received. The mittens were made and donated by Marcia Beaudoin of Brunswick. Checks were received from the following: Kathleen Watson-Goodwin $50, Charles & Elizabeth Grobe $75, John Fitzgerald $50, and Lorraine & Walter Lach $50. Donna Shaw $20, L.L. Bean Retirees $100, David & Joyce Hennessey $35, Bill & Kathy Tucker $50, Catherine & Dillwyn Paiste $100, and $25 from Perley & Nancy Gowell. Memorial donations were made by Barbara Gros for $25 in memory of Olivia, Les, & Howard Hudson, $50 from Mr. & Mrs. Armand D. Bouchard in memory of Cabot & Flora Bouchard, $50 from Charlie Finn in memory of his wife Patricia Dodge Finn, an early Santa Fund volunteer, $100 from Deborah Smith in memory of her parents William & Florence Cossette, $25 from Dante DiEdwardo in memory of his wife Susan DiEdwardo, and $100 from Katherine L. Leavitt in memory of Katherine M. Leavitt.

Just ring the doorbell and someone will assist you. It’s okay to leave price tags on the gifts as we need to value all donations for our records. Your donations will be published in the Times Record in the manner you wish: by name, in memory of a loved one, or anonymously. It will be our pleasure.
