Both the ocean water temperature and the air temperature held steady at a balmy 41 degrees for the annual Lobster Dip held to benefit Special Olympics Maine on New Year’s Day.

Over 300 people participated in the dip in front the The Brunswick at Old Orchard Beach at noon, just short of high tide.

The Lobster Dip’s top fundraiser was Kathleen Beecher, 68, of Portland, who is known as “Lobster Queen.” Beecher has raised over $20,000 for Special Olympics Maine, $6,000 this year alone. She says this is her last year participating in the dip as she has met her fundraising goal: “I love to go in the water and have fun for a great cause.”
