Classes at Saco Middle School have been canceled Wednesday to give school officials more time to clean up the mess caused by a water line break that flooded corridors and rooms on Tuesday.

The break affected a drinking fountain on the second floor, according to Principal Brian Campbell.

“Our custodians and other staff members worked quickly to address the issue, but because the leak affected so many rooms, we felt it was necessary to cancel school for the safety of our students and staff,” Campbell wrote in a message posted on the school’s website.

ServiceMaster Clean spent most of Tuesday removing Sheetrock in rooms where water was present. The company also used blowers to dry wet areas and to make sure no mold forms before the drywall can be reinstalled.

Questions regarding the cleanup should be directed to the school administration at 282-4181.
