OLD ORCHARD BEACH — Perley Winfield Vance Sr. passed away peacefully at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House on Jan. 3, 2017. 

He was born in Columbia, Maine, on Oct. 3, 1928, the son of William and Cora Grant Vance. Perley attended Columbia schools and enlisted in the U.S. Army serving in the Korean Conflict.

He worked for Lucas Tree Experts for over 44 years as a foreman, retiring in 2006. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, but he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; his brothers, Ernest and Reginald; and his sisters, Laura, Vera, Maxine and Esther.

Perley is survived by: his wife, Betty Mae Vance; his sons, Perley Vance Jr., Peter Vance and Paul Vance; a brother, Leslie Vance; sisters, Leona Desmond, Winona Ireland, Roberta Adams, Ruby Norton and Celia Emmons; five grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Friends and relatives may call from 3-5 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 5, 2017, at the Dennett, Craig & Pate Funeral Home 365 Main St., Saco. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday Jan. 6, 2017, at the funeral home. Pastor Merle Mitchell will officiate.

Burial with U.S. Army Honors will be in the spring at Maine Veterans Cemetery in Springvale.
