BRUNSWICK

The Brunswick High School boys basketball team bounced back from a tough loss in a big way, handing Oceanside just its second loss with a 49-39 Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference victory on Saturday.

The Dragons, coming off a 63-62 setback at Morse, improved to 6-6 and visits Edward Little on Friday at 7 p.m. The Mariners dropped to 8-2.

Tied at 13 through a quarter, Brunswick claimed a 25-17 halftime lead and led 34-31 after three.

Jackson Gordon tallied all six of his points in the fourth quarter as the Dragons pulled away. Corban Teel led the hosts with 12 points, with Josh Dorr adding 10, Nate Benoit eight, Colby Bucknam seven and Sam Dorval five.

Sam Atwood paced Oceanside with 14 points, nailing four 3-pointers in the loss.

Girls basketball

YARMOUTH — Taylor Rinaldi and Jessie Driscoll tallied 15 points each as Freeport earned a big 43-30 Western Maine Conference victory over Yarmouth on Saturday.

The Falcons have won four straight and are now 8-2 on the season. Yarmouth fell to 6-4.

Cory Langenbach led the Clippers with 12 points, while Johanna Hattan chipped in 11.

Freeport visits Old Orchard Beach today at 2:30 p.m.

The visiting Rambers used a 19-6 scoring advantage in the second quarter to take control en route to a Mountain Valley Conference win on Saturday.

After trailing 10-4 after a quarter, Winthrop went up 23-16 at the half and held a 31-25 edge after three.

Kena Souza popped in two 3-pointers and led all scorers with 16 points in the victory. Shie Smith chipped in 10 points.

Kaylin Le and Giana Russo split 20 points down the middle for Lisbon (6-5), with Jasmin Le adding six points.

At the free-throw line, Lisbon was 3- of-6 and Winthrop 13-of-24.

The Greyhounds visit Mountain Valley on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Madeline Suhr had 17 points, nine rebounds, four steals and four blocked shots to power the visiting Dragons past Oceanside at Rockland on Saturday.

The Dragons, 10-2, visit Edward Little on Friday at 5:30 p.m.

Brunswick used a 22-8 first quarter to take control, led 33-16 at the half and 46-31 after three.

Aidan Sachs chipped in 12 points in the win, with Sabrina Armstrong adding eight points and Charlotte MacMillan seven. Brunswick was 3-of-5 at the free-throw line.

Gabby Simmons paced the Mariners (4-5) with 12 points, while Alexis Mazurek had eight. At the line, Oceanside finished 7-of-11.

Boys hockey

BRUNSWICK — Jack Gresh scored on a 5-on-3 power play with 1:36 remaining in regulation to lift Windham/ Westbrook to a 2-1 victory over Mt. Ararat/Lisbon/Morse on Saturday at Sidney J. Watson Arena.

Ryley Austin staked the hosts to a 1-0 lead on a power-play goal in the second period.

Windham/Westbrook tied it on a Cam Morrison unassisted marker with 4:11 left in the middle frame.

Mt. Ararat/Lisbon/Morse held a 33- 11 shot advantage, but Windham/Westbrook netminder Sean White stopped 32 shots.

Cade Charron had nine saves for the Eagles, who host Edward Little today at 11 a.m.

The host Wildcats received two goals from Jacob Martin in a Class B South win over Brunswick at Dover, N.H., on Saturday.

Colin Palmer added a goal and an assist.

In goal, Owen Kwok and Keenan Gamache split duties for York (6-1) and combined on 11 saves. Riley Kirk turned away 27 shots in the cage for the Dragons, who fell to 2-6-1 and visit Gorham today at 12:30 p.m.
