LISBON
Lisbon High School was closed Monday so a section of old leaking pipe — part of the boiler system — could be repaired.
Because there was no heat in the building while the repair took place, officials decided to cancel school as they didn’t know how long it would take. As of 1 p.m., Superintendent Richard Green said the fix was near complete.
The leaky pipe was in the boiler room so there was no water damage.
Green said the boiler is old and dates to the 1950s. The school department is in the process of interviewing firms for a guaranteed performance contract. One of the efficiency projects funded through the resulting savings, would include updating the boiler.
The department would like to switch out the single large boiler with two small efficient boilers, Green said.
