The fluffy snow falling across Maine won’t amount to much, but slowed the Wednesday morning commute.
Light snow was falling across the southern half of the state Wednesday morning and moved on to northern and eastern areas by the afternoon. Most areas expected 1 to 3 inches of fluffy snow.
Emergency dispatchers in Cumberland and York counties say there were no car crashes or slide-offs reported and said crews had been out treating the roads since before dawn. The speed limit was reduced to 45 mph for the entire length of the Maine Turnpike, but was restored to normal by 12:30 p.m.
There were no school cancellations today, but both Berwick Academy and Sanford Christian Academy announced two-hour delays.
In central Maine, police officers responded to several accidents along the Interstate 95 corridor in Augusta and Waterville in the morning as a coating of snow made roads slick in some places.
A rollover was reported near the exit 109 ramp in Augusta, according to police scanner reports. Other accidents — and calls for state sanding trucks — were reported as well.
