AUGUSTA, — On Friday 20 Bowdoin students traveled from Brunswick to Augusta to call on Sen. Angus King to reject President Trump’s nominees, and support a Democratic filibuster of Supreme Court appointee Neil Gorsuch, according to a press release from Bowdoin Climate Action. Following a rally inside of King’s office, two leaders with the campus climate group delivered letters from the Bowdoin community. The demonstration came two days after King’s vote in favor of the confirmation of former Exxon CEO Rex Tillerson, and the day after Scott Pruitt’s confirmation hearing to head the Environmental Protection Agency was pushed through by the Senate GOP.
“To me, Senator King has always embodied Bowdoin’s values of moral leadership and connection to place, and his vote to confirm Rex Tillerson was a betrayal of those ideals,” said Julia Berkman-Hill, leader of Bowdoin Climate Action, in the release. “Today, King has another opportunity to demonstrate his commitment to protecting our climate by voting against Scott Pruitt, a man who has routinely attempted to dismantle the EPA, which he is now being vetted to run.”
