In 1910, High Street in South Windham was a quiet street, lined with “mill houses” built by the owners of the pulp mill (today known as the Keddy mill). John A. Andrew school would be built in the early 1920s. The wagon in the picture may have belonged to the fish man or ice man – early day vendors who brought their goods to customer. This area became known as Red City because all the mill houses were painted a shade of red when they were built.
