TOPSHAM — The Brunswick High School girls jayvee Orange basketball team closed its season with a 49-39 win over “Battle of the Bridge” rival Mt. Ararat on Tuesday.
Brunswick avenged an earlier loss to Mt. Ararat, using a stingy post defense combined with a pressuring full-court defense in the second half.
Anna Kousky, MacKenzie Dorr and Izzy Banks led the Dragons’ full-court press, while Alexis Guptill, Rosalie White and MacKenzie Burrows clogged the post.
Guptill led all scorers with 17 points while collecting 12 rebounds. Burrows had a strong second half, dishing out seven assists and grabbing 10 rebounds. Kousky added eight points for the Dragons.
The game was still up in the air in the closing minutes of the fourth quarter when Holly Black stole an inbound pass and scored to give Brunswick a 10-point advantage.
Alex Eaton, Theresa Breed and Abby Sirois led Mt. Ararat’s (8-9) offense with 10 points each. Breed pulled down 19 rebounds, while Grace Liedman had nine boards, Kyla Greenleaf six rebounds and five points, and Kassidy Dixon four points.
